Once opened, wooden worktops should be cut to size and immediately treated with a coat of
Rustins Danish Oil, or similar, to prevent damp penetration, as this could result in bowing of the worktop. A further coat to both sides of the worktop should be applied before fitting and a third coat to the top and exposed edges after fitting. Thereafter a coat a coat each week for the first 2/3 weeks is advisable, followed by a coat each month for 6 months. Thereafter, once every 6 months should suffice to keep your wooden worktops protected and looking good.
It may sound daunting but oiling your new worktops is just a wipe-on and wipe-off exercise after the initial 3 coats and your loving attention will be well repaid over the years
Rustin’s Danish Oil penetrates deep into the wood and dries in 4/6 hours depending on temperature and humidity and also on the number of previous applications. It dries to a hard, durable and water resistant seal. Unlike varnishes, it does not leave a film which can chip or peel or craze with age.
